How long does it take?

Most brand foundation projects (incl. brand strategy, brand identity design etc) typically take between 6 to 12 weeks. The actual timeframe depends on a number of factors including: the scope of works we’re delivering; the complexity of your business/organisation/product; and the availability of everyone involved (you, your stakeholders and us).

Brand roll-out and brand management (incl. communication design etc) can run over a longer period or on an on-going basis (or retainer). Timeframes usually depend on: scope of works; range of deliverables; and production timeframes.

I just need a logo. Can you help?

We can, but we do our best work when we look at your brand as a whole, because a logo is only one asset in your brand and marketing arsenal. And sometimes a new logo isn’t the best prescription (or brand solution). It could be that looking at other areas of your brand will better help you. How much is branding and/or brand strategy?

We understand you’re keen to get a rough idea of investment. But the thing is, no two businesses or brands are the same so we can’t give you a ballpark budget without assessing your current situation. But fear not, we’re very transparent and always start with a free no-obligation phone consult as a first step. I can get a logo online for $500. Why do your ideas cost more?

That’s right, you can. And we’re pretty sure you could buy a car somewhere online for $500 too. But, like your brand, you’ll probably find that if you invest more in your car initially it would last a lot longer and take you a lot further too. It’s the same principle with branding.

I need to get three quotes, are you in?

That’s not the way we role. If you’re after the cheapest brand consultant or branding designer in Perth, it’s probably not us. And it’s one of the reasons why we don’t play the ‘3-quote game’. But anyway, this is your brand we’re talking about here. Do you really want ‘cheap’? Or do you want strategic thinking and intelligent creativity? Do you want to create a brand that’s built to last?

Can you deliver a free pitch? Will you work for free is we call it a ‘competition’?

The short answer is no. Like all Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) members, we’re unable to deliver unpaid design submissions for commercial work. Sometimes called ‘free pitching’ or ‘indicative ideas’, unpaid pitches hurt our industry and, in turn, us. You can find out more about AGDA and their free pitch philosophy here.

How many concepts or ideas do you present?

Every business and project has different requirements so we’ll discuss your goals in the initial scoping phase. Once we’ve assessed and diagnosed your business/brand/marketing challenge, we’ll decide on the number of options needed. Sometimes that’s one concept. Sometimes it’s two or three. Because, at Tandem, we’re more about quality than quantity.

Can you supply the fonts files for my project?

No, sorry. On this one our hands are tied. Although different font foundries have different licensing and usage agreements, font licenses are best thought of as software licenses. So, unless a multi-seat (or multi-user) license has been purchased by you (or by us on your behalf) the files aren’t ours to hand over.

For specifics about the licensing agreement for your brand fonts, we recommend visiting the relevant font foundry website.

Do you supply working files as part of the design contract?

Working files aren’t automatically included as part of any agreement (proposal/estimate) and aren’t transferred at the end of the project. So, unless it was agreed in writing as part of the contract, all working files remain the property and copyright of Tandem Studio.

The fees included in your contract are based on: the value of the project; and/or the time/hours delivered; and/or any production deliverables or other expenses. If you would like us to supply any supporting or working files as part of your project, it’s best to discuss this at the very beginning so that we can include the relevant fees in your contract.

Note, we’re all for transparency so our full terms and conditions (supplied to you as part of the contract) outline what you need to know regarding intellectual property, ownership and copyright.

I’ve lost my logo or the files you supplied. Can you re-send them?

Yes* we can. However, we charge a fee to de-archive and re-supply files. So to avoid these additional costs, it’s best to store all your important assets somewhere safe.

*Note, this only applies if the files were included as part of the original contract/scope of works and are still stored in our archive.


How big is your team?

We’re a flexible unit so the number of people involved in your project will depend on the services we’re delivering. But that’s good. It means you only deal with (and pay for) the people you need. No account managers. No lost in translation. Just the brand-building experts your business needs.

Are you a full service creative agency?

No, we’re not your typical creative agency. It’s not a box we fit into. Instead, we’re better described as a boutique ‘collective’. A collective of strategists, designers and copywriters. So we’re less jack-of-all-trades creative agency and more master of one; branding and brand strategy.

Where are you located?

We’re not in a big shiny office in the city – that’s not our thing. But we are based locally in Perth, Western Australia. Although we don’t spend every day together in the same studio, we’re often found with our heads together at co-work spaces here in Perth.

Do you outsource overseas?

Nope. We know (and love) the whole team we work with. And we’ve been working together for a long time. So you can rest assured that – whoever’s involved in building your brand – they’ll be local people we know and trust.

I already have a copywriter or strategy team, can you work with them?

Probably. If you’re already working with an agency or consultant and you want to add our brand-building skills into the mix (perhaps branding or brand identity design) then we’re happy to talk about how we can collaborate.

Do you have sparkly account managers and client golf days?

No, that really isn’t our bag. Instead of dealing with an account manager, you’ll deal directly with the people delivering your project (the creative, strategist, copywriter). And no, we don’t do golf days. But that means you’re not paying for those hidden extras either.


What sectors do you work with?

Our brand experience is pretty broad and covers a range of sectors. From corporates to not-for-profits. From high-end luxury to nimble start-ups. We work with small to medium-size businesses/organisations across both the public and private sector. Rather than specialising in a particular client field, we specialise in ours; brand-building.

What sort of clients do you work with?

Typically our clients are either in transition or facing change in their business or work life. They may be looking to start something or make something better. That could be launching a new business, product or service; or changing the one they have. It could be shifting up a gear or driving their business/organisation forward. They’re focussed people happy to challenge the status quo. To mix things up. Do things differently. Or make the world a better place.

I want to create change but I’m not sure what I need. Can you help?

We certainly can. We start with a no-obligation phone consult to determine where you are (business-wise) and your needs and goals – to get an idea of what you’re looking for or what you’re hoping to achieve. We hear you. We’ve helped lots of start-ups take their first steps so we know launching a business can be a minefield. And overwhelm can set in pretty quickly. Do you offer internships or work experience placements?
